Nutrition and Dietetics Students Participated in the Symposium with Their Presentation Titled “The Utopia of Nutrition and Life”

The Interdisciplinary Independent Living, Urbanization, and Health Symposium-II, organized by the Department of Social Work under the Faculty of Health Sciences at Istanbul Gelisim University on May 15, 2025, showcased original and creative contributions from students of various academic departments.

During the event, Nutrition and Dietetics Department students Canan Culha, Begüm Tonyalı, and Zeynep Demir drew attention with their presentation titled “The Utopia of Nutrition and Life.” Through the concept of Vivantia, the students introduced a visionary and innovative perspective on future models of healthy living and sustainable cities.

The presentation explored Vivantia as more than just a place for physical nourishment; it was portrayed as a multidimensional living space that strengthens interpersonal connections and promotes emotional and social well-being. This imagined utopian city featured AI-supported kitchen systems enabling personalized nutrition, sustainable food production technologies designed to eliminate waste, and universally accessible food systems for all segments of society.

Vivantia also represents a comprehensive approach to nutrition that places environmental, economic, and cultural sustainability at its core. The model emphasized eco-friendly living practices such as reduced meat consumption, promotion of plant-based diets, organic agriculture, portion control, and prevention of food waste.

The presentation further highlighted the importance of inclusivity by addressing the nutritional needs of disadvantaged groups such as children, the elderly, and individuals with special needs. Creative solutions ranged from Braille menus and auditory kitchen assistants to smart dietary wristbands and communal dining spaces that encourage emotional bonding through food. It was also underlined that access to healthy food should be considered a fundamental human right, not a luxury.

Promoted as “the utopia of nutrition and life,” Vivantia offered a compelling vision that focuses not only on physical health but also on psychosocial balance, cultural continuity, and planetary sustainability, earning significant interest from symposium attendees.

We sincerely congratulate our students for this creative and inspiring work and wish them continued success in their academic journey.
