 Time After Pandemic

Istanbul Gelişim University (IGU) Faculty of Health Sciences (SBF) Vice Dean Dr. Assistant Professor Abdullah Yüksel Barut gave a speech about the ‘Time After the Pandemic.’

An event by the name of ‘Time after the Pandemic’ was held via Google meet on Wednesday on 27.01.2021, between 14.00-15.00. The event was held by the chairman Dr. Assistant Professor Emel Tozlu Öztay Assistant and the participation of the vice dean of faculty of health sciences of Istanbul Gelişim University, Dr. Assistant  Professor Abdullah Yüksel Barut.

FHS Vice Dean Dr. Abdullah Yüksel Barut said: “First of all, I thank you for this event. Everyone's habits have changed during the pandemic period after March 2020. In this process of change, individuals began to manage their time very differently. When we say time, we cannot turn back time. We cannot return the word that comes out of our mouth. The arrow coming out of the bow never goes back. Here, I will speak of you about a research. An Austrian nurse listed what she observed while working in an elderly nursing home in England. The sentences she heard from individuals were as follows: 'I wish I had the courage to live my own life, I wish I had not worked that hard, I wish I had the courage to explain my feelings, I wish I could meet with my friends more, I wish I could let myself be happier.' To achieve success, it is necessary to break the comfort."

Dr. Assistant Professor Abdullah Yüksel Barut continued: “When someone had a fever in the early days of the corona epidemic, everyone asked each other about the symptoms. If there was a symptom, they were asked to go to the doctor and have a test. There was an atmosphere of panic. If we think over what Buddha said, 'the biggest mistake is to think we have time. Time is more valuable than money.' The average age of human life was calculated as 78 years, and in these 78 years, there are 28.3 years of sleep, 10.5 years of working, 9 years of using television and social media, 6 years at home, 4 years of food and drink needs, 3.5 years of education, 2.5 years of care, 2.5 years of shopping, 1.5 years of childcare and 1.5 years of transportation. Now all that leaves behind just 9 years. When we wake up in the morning, we have 24 hours; in other words, 86,400 seconds."

He continued his words by quoting Van Dkye: 'Time is too slow for those who wait, too fast for those who fear, too long for those who are sad, too short for those who celebrate, it is endless for those who love.' Dr. Assistant Professor Abdullah Yuksel Barut said: “Love should be the basic principle of using time well. Time is necessary and expensive for any task. Wanting is necessary to succeed, but it is necessary to start on time to finish. The virus uses time very well and starts its work on time due to the negligence of human beings. As an individual, we cannot do this. Gaining time management skills requires effort, you cannot force the individual to adopt it, it happens automatically after it is acquired, an individual who wants to succeed must leave his/her comfort. Sometimes the time passes quickly and sometimes slowly. Therefore, those who research this issue divide the time into three. Firstly objective which is measurable, so, real-time (24 hours), secondly subjective which is perceived, unmeasurable time. In this type of time, time is percieved as very long when you're unhappy while time passes quickly when you're happy. Finally, biological time. This type of time is based on instinctual and acquired habits. Waking up at the same time every day is an example of this type of time.”
Dr. Assistant Assistant Abdullah Yuksel Barut continues by quoting the words of Henry Ford in the event: ''Time is a resource equally distributed to all living things. If it is not managed consciously, it means that nothing is managed correctly." He gave information about time traps and ways to use time well.

Questions from the participants were answered at the end of the event. Dr. Assistant Professor Emel Tozlu Öztay thanked Assistant Professor Abdullah Yüksel Barut and the audience. The event ended.
