The foundations of Istanbul Gelisim University Faculty of Health Sciences were laid with the Council of Ministers Decision No. 2012/3620 dated 8 August 2012. Pursuant to the decision published in the Official Gazette No. 28407 dated 10 September 2012, Istanbul Gelisim University School of Health Sciences was established and began its educational activities in the 2012-2013 Academic Year.
The School of Health Sciences began its educational activities with 190 students. Students were admitted to the Departments of Nursing, Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation, Nutrition and Dietetics, Child Development, and Social Work.
With the establishment of the Department of Audiology, the number of departments within the School increased to six.
With the establishment of the Departments of Health Management and Healthcare Institutions Management, the number of departments increased to eight. In 2015, these two departments were merged under the name Health Management pursuant to a decision of the Council of Higher Education (YÖK).
During the same academic year, English-medium programs in Nursing, Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation, Nutrition and Dietetics, Child Development, and Social Work were introduced, further expanding the academic structure.
With the addition of the Department of Occupational Therapy, the total number of departments/programs increased to thirteen.
With the establishment of the Departments of Prosthetics and Orthotics and Perfusion, the total number of departments/programs increased to fifteen.
With the establishment of the Departments of Speech and Language Therapy and Gerontology, the total number of departments/programs reached seventeen.
Thirteen departments/programs were awarded full accreditation by AHPGS (Accreditation Agency in Health and Social Sciences). Further information is available on the AHPGS website .
Pursuant to Presidential Decree No. 3203, published in the Official Gazette No. 31315 dated 25 November 2020, the School of Health Sciences was transformed into the Faculty of Health Sciences.
