The Faculty of Health Sciences session of the 2025-2026 Academic Year Student Orientation, organized by our University’s Office of the Dean of Students, took place on Monday, September 15, 2025, at 12:30 p.m. in the Mehmet Akif Ersoy Conference Hall, J Block Campus. The event began with the attendance of Rector Prof. Dr. Bahri ŞAHİN, Vice Rector S. Arda ÖZTÜRKCAN, and Vice Rector Necmettin MARAŞLI. With the participation of newly enrolled students from our faculty, the program included informative sessions and exchanges to support students in adapting to university life.
The Orientation Event opened with a welcome speech by the Rector of Istanbul Gelişim University, Prof. Dr. Bahri ŞAHİN. Following this, our Faculty’s Vice Dean, Asst. Prof. Dr. Abdullah Yüksel BARUT, addressed the students and shared his wishes and greetings for the new academic year.
After Barut’s speech, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences and Head of the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics, Assoc. Prof. Dr. H. Merve BAYRAM; Head of the Department of Child Development, Asst. Prof. Dr. Nurten ELKİN; Vice Head of the Department of Speech and Language Therapy, Lecturer Seda KETEN; Head of the Department of Occupational Therapy, Prof. Dr. Arif ÖNDER; Vice Head of the Department of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation, Asst. Prof. Dr. Hüsniye Merve DEMİRER; Head of the Department of Nursing, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mahruk GÜNEYLİ; Head of the Department of Perfusion, Prof. Dr. Kıvanç Derya PEKER; Head of the Department of Health Management, Asst. Prof. Dr. Aslı KAYA; and Head of the Department of Social Work, Prof. Dr. İsmet Galip YOLCUOĞLU introduced themselves and their departments while meeting the new students. They concluded their speeches by wishing a successful academic year for all students.
Subsequently, IGU Coordinator of Addiction Prevention, Asst. Prof. Dr. Nurten ELKİN; Clinical Psychologist Dr. Ünal Erdem ELLİ from the IGU Psychological Counseling Unit; and Deputy Director of the Career Guidance Application and Research Center, Lecturer Aylin KOÇ, delivered informative presentations about their units.
As part of the event, alumni from our faculty also shared their experiences with new students. Ali Haitham Shlaka JANABI, a graduate of the English Program in Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation, and Musab ALPAYDIN, a graduate of the Turkish Program in Nursing, reflected on their university experiences and offered guiding suggestions on career planning after graduation. Speaking about the Double Major (ÇAP) program, Audiology student Damlagül DEMİR provided insights into the opportunities and challenges of the process, explaining how students can enrich their academic development across different fields. İlksen Feyza GERALİ, a student in the Turkish Program of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation, who stands out with achievements in sports, art, and culture, emphasized in her speech that personal growth is not limited to academic success. Highlighting the importance of international experiences in students’ personal and academic development, Mahmut YAMAN, a student of the English Program in Child Development, shared the gains of participating in the Erasmus+ program. By illustrating the contributions of international education opportunities, he underlined their benefits for career journeys.
Student clubs operating at IGU also met new students at their stands, introducing their activities and projects tailored to diverse interests. The Mentor Student Community likewise presented themselves, expressing their readiness to support new students.
The orientation event helped new students of our faculty adapt to university life while also providing an opportunity to become more familiar with the academic, social, cultural, and personal development opportunities available throughout their education.
