Message of the Chair

Dear Students,

Social work as a field and profession is rooted in human rights and social justice, aiming to eliminate the dynamics that create social issues and resolve existing problems through problem-solving approaches. It also aims to build a functional societal system by taking fundamental actions such as enhancing social welfare, improving quality of life, and intervening in factors that hinder citizens' development.

To equip future professionals capable of practicing this important profession, a contemporary, progressive, humanistic, and continuously improving curriculum is essential during undergraduate education. Istanbul Gelisim University not only provides theoretical knowledge, methods, and techniques of social work but also instills a vision to integrate these with other social sciences such as sociology, social anthropology, social policy, psychology, philosophy, education, and communication. With our faculty consisting of experts in the field, we aim to prepare social work candidates with a modern and practice-oriented curriculum that instills behavioral skills necessary for professional practice.

Our goal is not only to demonstrate the practical application of theoretical knowledge but also to foster emotional gains, enabling students to think like professionals and adhere to the ethical codes of the profession from the early years. Another distinctive feature of social work education at Istanbul Gelisim University is our commitment to internationalization. Through a protocol signed with the Accreditation Agency in Health and Social Sciences (AHPGS) based in Germany, our Social Work Department offers education aligned with European principles and standards from 2018 to 2023. This ensures our students can pursue education and employment worldwide.

Social work offers diverse career opportunities in child welfare, women's issues, local governments, health, judicial systems, and social services. Graduates from our program, equipped with effective training at Istanbul Gelisim University, can comfortably assume roles as academics, practitioners, managers, and contributors to building a healthy society in public, private sectors, and international organizations.
