 Interview on 'Occupational Therapy Interventions in Addicted Individuals'


Istanbul Gelişim University Occupational Therapy Club held a conversation with Specialist Occupational Therapist Yasin TEKECİ on Addicted Individuals.


In the conversation held online under the moderation of Istanbul Gelişim University Occupational Therapy Club, Specialist Occupational Therapist Yasin Tekeci shared his experiences with our students.
 
Our expert occupational therapist shared with our students what addiction is, the physiological changes that occur as a result of addiction, and general definitions and information about the process in which addiction develops in the human body. He emphasized that although individuals undergo a rehabilitation process for about a year starting from their addiction, they are faced with the situation of not being able to completely get rid of their addiction and even if the rehabilitation process is successful, they should be followed in a risky addict position.
 
It was discussed in depth that addiction has two types: behavioral (gambling addiction, game addiction and shopping addiction) and substance addiction (alcohol, drugs, smoking), secondary addictions such as cigarettes and alcohol are seen in schizophrenic patients, and the negative effects of people's access to substance on their addiction. .
 
Our guest teacher emphasized that how we should approach the addicted individuals from the perspective of the environment and the therapist, and one of the best things we can do for them should be supporting in persuading the treatment process. In addition, questions such as our students' place of occupational therapists in the treatment of addicted individuals, evaluation and intervention and
what are the methods?  were answered.
