Hippotherapy

An event on "Hippotherapy" was held on May 12, 2022 by the Occupational Therapy Department of the Faculty of Health Sciences of Istanbul Gelişim University and the Occupational Therapy and Social Rehabilitation Club. Occupational therapist and Hippotherapist Ayşenur DEMİR ÖZAN, who participated in the event as a speaker, shared general information about the therapeutic use of horses and the use of hippotherapy in occupational therapy with the students.

Ayşenur DEMİR ÖZAN talked about the physiological, sensory, emotional, cognitive and social benefits of using horses in the therapy process. In addition, the gait of the horse; she emphasized that the fact that it is in the form of variable, rhythmic and repetitive movements is important in improving balance and muscle control of individuals.

At the end of the presentation, the students discussed with Ayşenur DEMİR ÖZAN the current situation regarding the future of hippotherapy in Turkey and stated that they would take a role in the process of establishing a hippotherapy team in Istanbul.
The event ended with Lecturer M. Ferit AKKURT and Research Assistant Selen AYDÖNER presenting her plaque to the guest and thanking her for the presentation and the valuable information she shared.
