Cancer Week Panel
"Cancer Week Panel" was held on 29.03.2022 at Istanbul Gelişim University Faculty of Health Sciences. Under the name of "Multidisciplinary Approaches to Cancer", approaches of different disciplines to cancer were discussed.
Asst. Prof. Turgay Dağtekin, Lecturer Mustafa Ferit Akkurt, Lecturer Çağıl Ertürk, Res. Asst. Selen Aydöner, Lecturer Zeynep Şeyda Tut and Res. Asst. Buse Saygın presented her perspectives in own disciplines to the students.
Ergotherapy department Res. Asst. Selen Aydöner talked about “Cancer and Occupational Therapy”. She mentioned that cancer is one of the most important health problems all over the world and in our country, and it is the second disease that can cause death after cardiovascular diseases. Res. Asst. Selen Aydöner emphasized that occupational therapy aims to maximize the individual's physical and psychological performance and increase social participation skills through participation in activities of daily living that are meaningful for the individual with cancer. She mentioned that occupational therapists prepare intervention programs to increase strength and mobility by compensating and/or adapting their skills with problem solving method in line with the results obtained by structured or semi-structured assessment methods, so that the individual can reach maximum independence and quality of life.
Finally, the panel on the questions and answers of the students came to an end.
