Music Therapy is the clinical and evidence-based use of music interventions to achieve personalized goals in a therapeutic relationship by a competent professional who has completed an approved music therapy program. It is a well-established allied health profession that uses music therapeutically to address behavioral, social, psychological, communicative, physical, sensory-motor and/or cognitive functions. Working with children who are developing differently, Hakan SEZGİN shared his experiences with Occupational Therapist candidate students and offered the opportunity to evaluate the role of music in therapy.
After designing realistic goals and target goals for identified needs, music therapists plan and implement individualized music therapy treatment programs that include strategies, procedures, and interventions to develop the skills necessary to achieve an optimal level of success or quality of life for differently developing individuals. In this context, an Occupational Therapy department has an important place in the Music Therapy seminar in order to raise awareness of the students in this field.
