 International Publication Success in Artificial Intelligence and Nutrition from the IGU Department of Nutrition and Dietetics


A joint study by Assoc. Prof. Hatice Merve Bayram and Prof. Dr. Arda Öztürkcan, faculty members of the Istanbul Gelişim University Faculty of Health Sciences, Department of Nutrition and Dietetics, has been published in Informatics for Health and Social Care, a Q1-ranked journal.


The article, titled “Applications of Generative and Predictive AI in Nutrition and Dietetics: A Narrative Review,” provides a comprehensive overview of emerging artificial intelligence applications in nutrition and dietetics. In line with the digital acceleration brought by the Industry 4.0 era, the study examines how generative AI models, image-processing–based food recognition systems, personalized nutrition algorithms, and clinical decision-support mechanisms are being integrated into nutrition services.

Analyzing 44 studies published between 2019 and 2025, the review demonstrates that AI models have shown substantial progress in areas such as nutritional assessment, meal prediction, disease risk analysis, and personalized diet planning. While highlighting the strong potential of these systems, the study also identifies ongoing challenges related to clinical accuracy, adaptability, and ethical data use.

By offering an evidence-based synthesis of the rapidly expanding intersection between nutrition science and digital health technologies, this publication significantly deepens the knowledge base of the international literature.
