The event started with a moment of silence and the reading of the National Anthem, followed by a speech by Asisst. Prof. A. Yüksel Barut, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences. Asisst. Prof. A.Yüksel Barut's speech emphasising the importance of 29 October and the Republic. Asisst. Prof. A.Yüksel Barut said ‘Happy 100th anniversary of the Republic’ and continued his speech by asking the question ‘Do you know why the Republic was declared on 29 October?’.
‘Fahrettin Altay Pasha has a question that has been haunting him for a long time: Why did Mustafa Kemal Atatürk proclaim the Republic on 29 October? Why was this date chosen instead of 27 October or 1 November?
One day, Fahrettin Altay, who went to Atatürk at the Çankaya Mansion after dinner, expressed this situation that attracted his attention: ‘Pasha, is it a coincidence that the proclamation of the Republic coincided with the night of 29 October? Could it have been three days earlier or five days later?’
Asisst. Prof. A. Yüksel Barut shared this story and explained Atatürk's mastery of time management and why the Republic was declared on 29 October. Asisst. Prof. A. Yüksel Barut emphasised the importance of the event by saying, ‘Because Mustafa Kemal Atatürk managed time as well as he managed a huge army well.’ He concluded his speech by saying, ‘I wish many more years under the rule of the Republic, happy to be a Turk’.
The event continued with the participation of retired Ambassador Uluç Özülker. Retired Ambassador Uluç Özülker explained Atatürk's military genius, rationalism, resilience and leadership, and emphasised that Atatürk was the people themselves, illustrating the people's belief in Atatürk with the story of an assassination attempt. Retired ambassador Uluç Özülker concluded his words by saying ‘Atatürk's success was the success of the Mehmetç soldiers and the people.’
The event was organised by Asisst. Prof. A. Yüksel Barut presented a plaque to retired ambassador Uluç Özülker and ended with a saz concert by the Nursing Club students.
