Two new symptoms, nausea and vomiting, have been added to the Omicron variant, according to analysis done at Imperial College London. However, some of these symptoms also indicate different diseases. Istanbul Gelisim University Public Health Specialist Asst. Prof. Nurten Elkin, who underlines the need for a differential diagnosis because it can cause cancer, says, “Isolation and contact follow-up should be strictly controlled in the Omicron variant as well. It is necessary to provide information targeting especially those who are hesitant about vaccination, to vaccinate people who are not vaccinated quickly, and to ensure that people who have completed their primary vaccination schedule receive their reminder doses quickly.”
Pointing out that the timely identification of the disease and taking the necessary isolation measures can reduce the risk of transmission in environments where cases can increase rapidly, such as public transportation vehicles, educational institutions, care institutions, barracks or prisons, Public Health Specialist Asst. Prof. Nurten Elkin says that the diagnosis and treatment of these diseases can be determined by the diagnosis of Covid-19 and its variants.
