The interview on “New Generation Drug Management in Health Institutions” was held
The event, which includes Pharmacist Fusun KOLAT’s presentation and information about the changes in drug management systems with developling technology in health institutions and information about use of new generation devices, took place between 13:00 – 14:30 on December 18, 2020 with 96 participants. Details about health technologies was shared in the event, which was held jointly by Istanbul Gelisim University (IGU) Life Sciences and Biomedical Engineering ARC and Nursing Club.
The event started with opening speech by Life Sciences and Biomedical Engineering ARC consultant Asst. Prof. Dr. Serap YESILKIR BAYDAR and continued with the speech of Nursing Club consultant Asst. Prof. Dr. Funda KARAMAN. KARAMAN said: “Pharmaceutical systems have a great importance in nursing practices. I think our students will also get a lot of useful information and it will be an awesome event.”
The speech continued with our student Mahsum SIGINC, the president of Nursing Club. SIGINC, who is a 3rd year student at Istanbul Gelisim University (IGU) Nursing Department, gave brief information about the activities and membership of the club. The event started after he completed his speech by best wishes.
Pharmacist Fusun KOLAT, working as the Operations and Marketing Manager at Invotek Health Technologies; started the presentation by transferring her experiences on educational knowledge, pharmacy and drug preparation systems. KOLAT stated that her presentation is based on 4 main contents; "Traditional Drug Management Approach", "New Generation Drug Management Approaches", "Effects on Patients" and "Effects on Occupation Groups", also detailed information about "Stock Management Processes" and "Clinical Processes".
After diversifying the preparation of drugs as "IV Drug Preparation", "Chemotherapy Preparation", "TPN Preparation" and "Oral Tablet Reconstitution", KOLAT stated that the drugs previously prepared in service environments are now prepared in Central Units. She also gave details on important issues such as sterility and hospital infection risks, risk of medication errors in human-dependent processes, health and safety problems and nursing workload in these processes.
KOLAT stated: "Medication errors have enormous consequences that can lead to the death of the patient, as well as bringing cost-related problems” and continued her presentation by giving information about human medication errors and the cost of errors and the studies.
After mentioning the changing processes with “New Generation Pharmaceutical Management Approaches”, KOLAT emphasized the importance of the agreement between physician-nurse-pharmacist. KOLAT continued the presentation with examples of new technologies; she shared the situation in our country and in the world regarding the Central Medicine Preparation and Packaging Unit, Medicine Preparation Robots and Devices, Medicine Transfer Robots, Automatic Cabinets and Bedside Verification.
Besides mentioning the effects of Medication Management Systems on patient gains such as avoiding medication errors, providing the right medication efficacy, shorter hospital stays and gains of occupational groups such as pharmacists, nurses, biologists, dieticians; KOLAT answered the questions from participants and the event ended.
