Research Assistant of Istanbul Gelisim University Nursing (English) Department made the opening speech by drawing attention to the
responsibilities and
sacrifices of nurses during the pandemic period.

CNS Nurcan MANAV for accepting their invitations while conveyed their best wishes.
Starting her career as a nurse in the Cardiovascular Surgery Department of a private hospital, MANAV continued to work in a state institution after her 2-year experience. Working for 2 years as a Chief Nurse of Internal Medicine Service, MANAV stated that she has been working as an
Infection Control Nurse since 2011. Saying that she always aims for the best while fulfilling her responsibilities in the nursing profession, MANAV drew attention to the obligations and
spiritual aspect of the nursing profession.
Starting her presentation after her brief speech, MANAV gave information about the changes that occurred in hospitals with the pandemic process. MANAV shared information on
Covid-19 and the transmission route, also she explained the hospital structures in this process. MANAV said “With the announcement of the pandemic, the hospitals determined where the possible and definite cases will be followed, the stages to be followed in the process of accepting and following the patients who come to the emergency department, the elevators and roads to be used, the staff involved all were determined after the meeting of the pandemic board. Daily changes and planning were made with the progress of the process and the increase in the number of cases.”
Stating that all the staff were trained by infection control nurses on the approach to Covid-19 patients and the use of personal protective equipment, MANAV talked about
triage practices. Providing detailed information about the
PCR sampling process, MANAV gave information about the equipments which are used for protect healthcare workers.
Referring to the working conditions and plans during the pandemic defence, She expressed the problems faced by nurses fighting the epidemic at the forefront while trying to cope with the anxiety of the
unknown. She stated that;

are being used as personal protective material for the staff who will come into contact with certain / possible Covid-19 cases closer than 1 meter.
Providing information about the
filiation approaches in the hospital, MANAV explained the
psychological effects of the Covid-19 pandemic on healthcare workers. MANAV said “The fact that the World Health Organization declared this year as the
Year of Nurses and Midwives due to the 200th anniversary of Florence Nightingale's birthday, the coincidence of such a year proves us how important nursing is for the societies. Nursing should be seen as a
health investment in a country, but not a cost."
