The event started after the opening of the "National Anthem Composition Exhibition" prepared by Assoc. Prof. Aslı KAYA and IGU Youth Choir. Valuable speakers at the event were Prof. Dr. Fuat ODABAŞIOĞLU and Head of Social Work Department Prof. Dr. İsmet Galip YOLCUOĞLU attended.
Following the moment of silence and the reading of the National Anthem, it continued with the opening speeches of the Vice Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences, Assoc. Prof. Abdullah Yüksel BARUT, and the Rector of Istanbul Gelişim University, Prof. Dr. Bahri ŞAHİN.
The event continued with the presentation of Prof. Dr. İsmet Galip Yolcuoğlu, one of the faculty members of the Department of Social Work, about the life and works of Mehmet Akif. Yolcuoğlu talked about Mehmet Akif's difficult life during the collapse of the Ottoman Empire, his personality, his view of life and his works. Yolcuoğlu completed his presentation by explaining how Akif's sacrifice, diligence and intelligence made him an exceptional personality and a great poet throughout his life, his support for the War of Independence and the inspiration Mehmet Akif gave to his students and his circle.
The 12 March Adoption of the National Anthem Event continued with the presentation of Fuat Odabaşıoğlu. In his presentation, Odabaşıoğlu drew attention to the words written and sung to be used as an anthem until the birth of the National Anthem. He continued his presentation with the story of the writing of the National Anthem and Mehmet Akif's role in the birth of our National Anthem, which we still read with enthusiasm today as the first day. Odabaşıoğlu said, “... It is said that Mehmet Akif wrote the National Anthem in 10 days in Taceddin Dervish Lodge. "After the National Anthem was written, it was read for the first time in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey on March 1, 1921, by the then Minister of National Education, Hamdullah Suphi Tanrıöver, from the Parliament rostrum." Following his words, Istanbul Gelişim University Youth Choir sang the 10 stanzas of the National Anthem on stage with enthusiasm and was greeted with applause.
The event ended with the speeches of the valuable guests and the presentation of plaques and certificates of appreciation to the guests.
