 The Women’s Health and Pelvic Floor Awareness Seminar Was Held.


As part of International Women’s Day on March 8th, a seminar titled “Women’s Health and Pelvic Floor Awareness” was held to raise awareness about pelvic floor health, a crucial aspect of women’s well-being. The event took place on March 10, 2025, at the Firnas Auditorium in Block K, with approximately 70 students from the Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation and Occupational Therapy departments in attendance.


Expert Physiotherapist Özlem Gözlersüzer comprehensively addressed the impact of pelvic floor muscles on women’s health during the seminar. Gözlersüzer discussed issues such as urinary incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse, chronic pain, and postpartum muscle weakness, emphasizing that these conditions are not limited to specific age groups but can affect women of all ages. She also provided detailed information about daily practices and physiotherapy methods for maintaining pelvic floor health.
 
The seminar included practical demonstrations of various techniques aimed at strengthening the pelvic floor muscles, such as Kegel exercises, breath control, and posture adjustments. Highlighting the significant benefits of these exercises throughout different stages of a woman’s life particularly in the postpartum period. Gözlersüzer discussed the long-term health advantages of regular exercise and offered practical recommendations for incorporating pelvic floor-supportive habits into daily routines.
 
At the event’s conclusion, Department Head Dr. Gülşah Konakoğlu presented a plaque and a certificate of appreciation to Özlem Gözlersüzer for her valuable contributions. Konakoğlu emphasized the importance of initiatives aimed at raising awareness about women’s health and expressed the need for continuing such informative events.
 
Students and faculty members who attended the seminar stated that they found the session highly beneficial. Participants noted that gaining up-to-date information on pelvic floor health, along with the integration of theoretical knowledge with practical exercises, significantly contributed to their professional development. They also expressed their interest in similar seminars and workshops on related topics, underscoring the importance of ongoing efforts to raise awareness in women’s health and physiotherapy.
