Telerehabilitation Presentation by IGU Department of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Drew Great Interest at International Congress

Dr. Faculty Member Hüsniye Merve Demirer, Acting Head of the Department of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation at Istanbul Gelisim University Faculty of Health Sciences, participated in the 8th International Mediterranean Scientific Research Congress held in Antalya between August 13–15, 2025, with her presentation titled “The Role of Telerehabilitation in the Management of Primary Dysmenorrhea.” Demirer’s telerehabilitation-focused study on women’s health attracted significant interest from congress participants.

Dr. Faculty Member Hüsniye Merve Demirer, Acting Head of the Department of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation at Istanbul Gelisim University (IGU) Faculty of Health Sciences, attended the 8th International Mediterranean Scientific Research Congress in Antalya with her scientific paper. In her presentation titled “The Role of Telerehabilitation in the Management of Primary Dysmenorrhea,” Demirer shared the potential contributions of telerehabilitation in the field of women’s health.
The presentation particularly emphasized the applicability, effectiveness, and contribution of telerehabilitation methods to the quality of life of women experiencing severe pain during menstruation. The findings of the study revealed that remote healthcare services not only play an important role in the management of chronic diseases but also provide valuable support in addressing women’s specific health concerns.

Digital Solutions in Women’s Health at the Forefront

Demirer’s study demonstrated that digital health applications, which are becoming increasingly widespread worldwide, can also serve as an effective tool for common yet often neglected health issues such as primary dysmenorrhea. The presentation, followed with great interest at the congress, was regarded by participants as an innovative approach to improving women’s quality of life.
The presentation also highlighted how telerehabilitation enables patients to be supported in their own home environments with personalized exercise programs and physiotherapeutic counseling. This not only facilitates easier access to healthcare services but also enhances treatment adherence.

Opportunity for International Scientific Exchange

The 8th International Mediterranean Scientific Research Congress brought together academics and researchers from different disciplines, fostering knowledge sharing. With participants from Turkey as well as many countries across the Mediterranean basin, the congress featured a wide range of fields including health sciences, engineering, social sciences, and education.
Demirer’s study spotlighted current trends and technological approaches in physiotherapy and rehabilitation, contributing to the international academic community present at the congress.

Contribution to IGU’s Academic Vision

Through such studies presented by its academics on international platforms, Istanbul Gelisim University aims not only to guide health sciences research in Turkey but also to play an active role in the global scientific network. Dr. Faculty Member Hüsniye Merve Demirer’s paper is considered an important step that strengthens IGU’s academic productivity and international visibility, particularly in the field of physiotherapy and rehabilitation.
This presentation on the applicability of telerehabilitation in women’s health also aligns with the university’s research-oriented vision. IGU continues to support its students and academics in producing studies that can contribute to science at both national and international levels.

The Future of Telerehabilitation

Telerehabilitation applications for primary dysmenorrhea may create new opportunities for both clinicians and patients in the future. In this context, Demirer’s study represents one of the pioneering academic initiatives in Turkey in this field. It is expected that the research will be supported with larger samples in the coming period, guiding clinical practices.
