Standing in the middle of the traffic during the day, Dikilitaş Monument turns into a car park at nights
The 107-year-old Dikilitaş Monument in Istanbul's Bakırköy district was restored by the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IBB) in the past months. However, with the removal of the wire cage it was in, it was left in the middle of the heaviest traffic and turned into an area where citizens park their cars. While Bakırköy City Protection Spokesperson, Head of the Department of Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Heritage of Istanbul Gelisim University (IGU), Dr. İlknur Türkoğlu called for the preservation of the monument, which is one of the important structures of the district, IBB announced that it has started the necessary projects and studies.
