July 4-10, 2025: World Kidney Week

Research Assistant Dilara CENGİZLİ from Istanbul Gelişim University, Faculty of Health Sciences, Department of Nursing, shared information about World Kidney Week.

World Kidney Week, celebrated globally every year during the first week of July, has started this year with various activities to raise awareness about the importance of kidney health. The focus of this week is not only on the early diagnosis and treatment of kidney diseases but also on promoting the adoption of healthy lifestyle habits.

World Kidney Week not only raises public awareness about the prevention and treatment of kidney diseases but also highlights the critical role of healthcare professionals, especially nurses, in this process. Nurses provide vital support in many areas, from educating patients on maintaining kidney health to managing chronic diseases. In early diagnosis and regular follow-up processes, the trust nurses build with patients increases treatment adherence and improves quality of life.

Since kidney diseases often progress without obvious symptoms, early diagnosis is crucial. At this point, nurses play a leading role as educators in community awareness activities, promoting the spread of healthy lifestyle habits. Additionally, their guidance on diet, medication use, and lifestyle changes helps make the disease process more manageable. World Kidney Week
