 Alcohol addiction reduces the quality of life


Istanbul Gelisim University Coordinatorship of Struggling with Addictions pursues to inform its students with activities. It was stated that more than 3 million people lost their lives due to alcohol addiction at the "Alcohol Addiction and Treatment Approaches" event, which was held with the participation of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Neslihan Akkisi Kumsar, Mental Health and Diseases Specialist.


The "Alcohol Addiction and Treatment Approaches" event organized by the coordinatorship of the organization started with the opening speech of Prof. Dr. Rıfat Mutuş, Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences. Asst. Prof. Dr. Nurten Elkin stated, Coordinator of Struggling with Addictions, who gave a speech at the event, said, “The prevalence of addictions, the diseases and functional disorders caused by them are an important public health problem since they shorten life expectancy, reduce quality, cost of treatment. Alcohol addiction is a psychiatric health problem characterized by high alcohol intake, which is an uncontrolled, automatic and compulsive nature of substance use disorders.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO) 2016 report, more than 3 million people die as a result of alcohol addiction. More than three-quarters of these deaths are men. Alcohol addiction accounts for more than 5% of the global burden of disease.

THE TREATMENT PROCESS VARIES BY INDIVIDUALS

The treatment process is extremely important in alcohol addiction, which causes physical and mental problems in individuals. The duration of treatment is very crucial in the fight against addictions, and this process depends on the patient's problems and needs. Mental Health and Diseases Specialist Assoc. The definition of addiction, risk factors in addiction, addiction and abuse concepts are explained in DSM 5 as substance use disorders. These criteria are deprivation, tolerance, impulsivity, developmental stages of addiction, addiction cycle.
