The seminar began with an opening speech by Asst. Prof. Abdullah Yüksel BARUT, Lecturer.
Following the opening speech, Asst. Prof. Nurten ELKİN, Moderator and Lecturer, was invited to the podium. In her speech, she emphasized the importance of healthy family and family health, particularly because 2025 is designated as the Year of the Family, and provided a detailed explanation on these concepts: "A healthy family is described in the literature as a successful family. In this family structure, mutual respect, love, proper communication, trust, appropriate roles and responsibilities, the protection and improvement of each individual's physical, mental, and social health, as well as unity among family members, and their enjoyment of spending quality time together, are observed. The family is a universal institution and, as a system, is an open one. It is actively affected by societal and cultural changes and the transformation and development of the modern era. Additionally, it includes a life cycle where the health issues and solutions of individuals from birth to death are addressed. Each period has its own unique dynamics: during the fertility years, issues related to pregnancy, birth, and the post-birth period; during infancy, issues related to growth and development, vaccinations, infectious diseases; during the preschool period, adjustment problems; during the school period, academic challenges; during adolescence, risky behaviors; during adulthood, chronic disease management and cancer screenings; and during old age, geriatric issues and their solutions are significant concerns for the family. Each period may present its own crisis, and it is expected that the family resolves these crises appropriately. In cases where the crisis exceeds the family's capacity, family counseling may be sought. The importance of Family Health Centers, as a physician, and the indispensable role of preventive health services for families, was emphasized."
After Asst. Prof. Nurten ELKİN’s insightful presentation, Prof. Dr. İsmet Galip YOLCUOĞLU was invited to deliver his speech. Prof. Dr. İsmet Galip YOLCUOĞLU specifically emphasized the importance of enhancing the quality of communication within the family, consciously assuming parenting roles, and supporting the psychosocial development of children. He also highlighted the critical role of empathy, trust, and mutual respect among family members in strengthening the family structure. He noted that healthy relationships within the family not only affect individual well-being but also positively influence societal integrity, urging participants to reconsider their family interactions.
Following Prof. Dr. İsmet Galip YOLCUOĞLU’s valuable speech, the stage was handed over to Ahmet Emin BAYSAL, Head of the Foster Family and Adoption Unit, and Ebru ÖZTEKİN, Social Worker, for their presentation. In their talk, they discussed the significance of foster care and adoption within the framework of the "Family Year Awareness Event," explaining these concepts in detail: They stated that children at risk, who, if not protected, could be driven to worse situations, are placed under protection as part of the responsibilities of a welfare state. They addressed family-centered care models and institutional care models, mentioning that family-based services reduce problematic behaviors in children. Based on research in Turkey, they pointed out that children raised in biological families exhibit the fewest behavioral problems. They explained the 13-step process of becoming a foster family and how the child's best interests are protected throughout this process.
After their valuable presentations, Ahmet Emin BAYSAL and Ebru ÖZTEKİN answered the participants' and audience's questions with great care.
At the conclusion of the event, plaques were presented to Asst. Prof. Abdullah Yüksel BARUT and Assoc. Prof. Neşe KISKAÇ as a token of appreciation, and the event was concluded.
