 A Workshop on Screen Exposure in Children and Adolescents was Held


The Istanbul Gelişim University Child Development Department and the Dean of Students' Office held an event titled "Screen Exposure in Children and Adolescents" as part of the Healthy Development Platform.


The event, held on October 2, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM, was attended by students from the Faculty of Health Sciences. The event began with a speech by Asst. Prof. Nurten Elkin, Head of the Child Development Department. Elkin briefly explained the effects of screen exposure on children's health and then gave the floor to the event's instructor, Res. Asst. Rabia Ceren ÇAVGA.
 
ÇAVGA discussed the positive and negative effects of screen exposure on child development. She stated that excessive exposure to inappropriate content during the preschool period can lead to developmental problems, musculoskeletal problems, language development issues, obesity, inadequate sleep, and physical inactivity. In her speech: He stated that attention should be paid to the factors of "Content and Duration" in children's technology use.
 
It was noted that children exposed to screen violence for extended periods of time exhibit desensitization to violence, tolerance of violence, and imitation behaviors. Case studies on screen exposure were conducted with the participants.
The workshop examined educational, free, and government-developed applications with parental control systems. It was explained that parents' shared decision-making with their children regarding screen time is effective in setting limits on technology use.
 
After the informative talk, the workshop began. At the end of the workshop, students' evaluations were taken and the event concluded.
