“Hearing Aid Applications in Children: Clinical and Field Experiences” Event Held

The Department of Audiology at Istanbul Gelisim University Faculty of Health Sciences hosted an event titled "Hearing Aid Applications in Children: Clinical and Field Experiences" on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, as part of the course "Principles of Hearing Aid Application in Children" (course code: ODY311).

During the in-class activity, Specialist Audiologist Sinem CAN ÇELEBİ participated as a guest speaker and discussed the clinical and practical aspects of hearing aid fitting and management in pediatric audiology. Information was shared on the evaluation of hearing loss in children, determining candidacy for hearing aids, interpreting audiological findings, and selecting devices suitable for the child's needs. Emphasizing the importance of hearing aid applications for children's auditory development and daily lives, the necessity of planning the application process according to individual needs was highlighted.

Within the scope of the event, the processes of programming hearing aids for children, the verification procedures conducted after application, and the adjustment of device settings according to the child's auditory needs were evaluated in detail. Through case studies, the aim was for students to relate their theoretical knowledge to clinical applications and to gain a professional perspective on situations that may be encountered in different pediatric cases.

In the continuation of the program, the follow-up processes for children using hearing aids, the regular evaluation of device usage, and the role of family counseling in the rehabilitation process were emphasized. While discussing the importance of active family participation in monitoring children's auditory development, experiences were shared on informing families and developing appropriate solutions to the problems they encounter. Additionally, the difficulties encountered in clinical and field applications, approaches to managing these difficulties, and the contributions of professional experiences to the application processes were evaluated.

The event where Specialist Audiologist Sinem CAN ÇELEBİ shared her professional experiences with students highlighted the importance of supporting theoretical knowledge with clinical applications in audiology education. Students were encouraged to approach pediatric hearing aid applications not just as limited to device selection and programming stages, but with a holistic approach that includes evaluation, verification, follow-up, and family counseling processes.

The Department of Audiology at Istanbul Gelisim University aims to enhance students' professional knowledge and skills, increase their awareness of clinical practices, and support their preparation for professional life after graduation through in-class activities based on the sharing of professional experiences.
