           1. What is the perfusion department and who is a perfusionist? 

  • The perfusion department is the field of science that involves using and maintaining devices (such as heart-lung machines, heaters-coolers, etc.) that temporarily take over the functions of the heart and lungs during surgical operations, managing extracorporeal circulation equipment, extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), and managing short, medium, and long-term ventricular assist devices. It is a 4-year undergraduate program, and graduates of this program are awarded the title "Perfusionist."
         2. What courses are taught in the perfusion department?
  • Courses include Anatomy, Physiology, Pharmacology, Heart Diseases, and Perfusion Techniques Technology. Additionally, practical courses, laboratory work, and clinical internships are part of the curriculum. You can click here to see the full list of curriculum courses.

  •           3. Where do perfusionists work?

    • Perfusionists typically work in the cardiovascular surgery departments of hospitals. They are involved in organ transplants and some special operations.

      •  Perfusionists can advance in their careers by gaining experience and specializing through additional training. They may move into administrative positions or the academic field.

                 5. What is the salary range for perfusionists? 

        • Perfusionist salaries can vary depending on the institution, experience, and region. Perfusionists working in public hospitals are generally paid according to the salary scale determined by the government, while salaries in the private sector can be more variable.

  •          6. Are there Double Major (ÇAP) and Erasmus+ opportunities?

    •  Students with a cumulative GPA of 2.90 out of 4.00 in their major program and who are in the top 20% of their class can start a second major program for free. Students who successfully complete the Double Major Program (ÇAP) graduate with two bachelor's degrees.
