Paper Presentation Held at the I. Graduate Academic Studies Congress

A new academic study in the field of child development was also presented during the congress. In the paper titled “A Comparative Analysis of Freud and Ghazali’s Approaches to Child Development,” presented by Research Assistant Aişe Büşra CIGER from the Child Development Department of Istanbul Gelisim University , the perspectives of Imam Al-Ghazali, one of the prominent Islamic scholars of the 11th century, and Sigmund Freud, the founder of psychoanalytic theory in the 19th century, on child development were comparatively analyzed within the framework of moral, social, and psychological dimensions of child development.

The study aimed to diversify reliable reference sources in child development and critically evaluate contemporary references. Within the scope of the presentation, Imam Al-Ghazali’s religious and morality-based understanding of child upbringing and Freud’s approach centered on unconscious processes and psychosexual development were analyzed from social, developmental, and religious perspectives. The study also discussed the effects of theories belonging to two different historical periods and intellectual traditions on child development, while examining how traditional intellectual heritage can be positioned within modern child development studies.
