 1 in 4 children are exposed to cyberbullying


Istanbul Gelisim University, Faculty of Health Sciences Lect. Selin Kalabaş said, “Cyberbullying is one of the most common problems seen in children in the digital age. As a result of the studies, it has been seen that 1 out of every 4 children are exposed to cyberbullying. ''


Cyberbullying

Despite technology provides many advantages to children, it also has some disadvantages, as it can be used for harm. According to the research, one in four children are subjected to cyberbullying.

What is the cyberbullying?

Cyberbullying is when children or adult, harasses others on the internet and in other digital spaces. It occurs through SMS, Text, and apps, or online in social media, forums, or gaming where people can view. After children use technology, they can feel sad and behave aggresively

 What are the signs of cyberbullying?

 

- Uneasy, nervous or scared about going to school or outside,

- Feeling upset or angry during or after internet and phone use,

- Loss of interest in favorite hobbies or activities,

- Academic performance decrements,

- Changes in mood, behavior, sleep, and appetite,

- Withdrawn from close friends and family,

- Hiding computer or tablet.

Cyberbullying prevention and intervention strategies:

Communication with the children is very important in that regard. Children should be able to tell their family about every problem. Also, their parents should use of the privacy and security settings on social networking sites to protect their chidren against cyberbullring. Moreover, parents should talk to them about advantages and disadvantages of using social media. Their parents should also block the cyberbully immediately and they should talk about their feelings.
