Nursing Approach to Anaemia in Elderly Individuals under the Consultancy of Asisst. Prof. Mahruk RASHIDI was presented at the International Congress
Zeynep ÇİÇEK, Özge POLAT, Sibel KAPAR and Gülten DEMİRBİLEK, senior students of Istanbul Gelişim University Faculty of Health Sciences, Department of NursingAsiss.t Prof. Mahruk RASHIDİ, presented their scientific studies at the 1st International Persepolis Scientific Research and Innovation Congress held on 10-11 May 2025.
In their presentation titled ‘Evaluation of Anaemia Developing in Elderly Individuals in Terms of Nursing Care’, attention was drawn to the importance of anaemia, which is frequently encountered in old age but often ignored as a natural consequence of aging. Based on the haemoglobin levels determined by the World Health Organisation (WHO) for adults, it was emphasised that these limits are also valid for elderly individuals.
In the study, it was stated that anaemia is not only a decrease in blood values, but also has serious negative effects on the general health status, functional capacity and quality of life of the individual. In particular, ignoring symptoms such as fatigue, shortness of breath and weakness by attributing them to the aging process may delay the chance of early diagnosis and treatment.
In this context, it is of great importance for nurses to correctly evaluate the symptoms of anaemia in elderly individuals and to provide health education to raise awareness. The presented study drew attention from the participants by drawing attention to the necessity of developing a holistic approach to elderly health in nursing education and practice.
