Meaningful Event for Hypertension Awareness in Büyükada by Istanbul Gelisim University
Istanbul Gelisim University (IGU) Faculty of Health Sciences, Department of Nursing held an awareness event in Büyükada to draw attention to public health within the scope of 17 May World Hypertension Day. In the event, which was held despite the difficult weather conditions, students and academicians of the university shared important information by establishing one-to-one contact with the island visitors.
At the information stand set up in Büyükada, citizens' blood pressure was measured and awareness was raised about the risks of hypertension, its relationship with circulatory system diseases and ways of prevention. During the event, students from the Department of Nursing provided information on the causes and consequences of hypertension under the supervision of academicians. Attention was drawn to the importance of healthy living habits and the vital importance of early diagnosis and preventive health behaviours was emphasised.
Adalar Municipality Police Chief and his team, who supported the event, were presented a certificate of appreciation by Assoc. Prof. Neşe Kıskaç for their contribution to the event.
Completed with a cultural trip
After the health-themed event, the participants participated in an island tour covering the historical and cultural points of Büyükada. Important buildings shedding light on the history of the island such as Taş Mektep, Aya Yorgi Church and the house of Resat Nuri Güntekin were visited.
Istanbul Gelisim University continues to draw attention not only in the academic field with such social responsibility projects, but also with health-oriented studies for the society. This activity both enabled students to gain experience in the field and contributed to the development of health awareness in the public.
