IGU Department of Health Management Represented Our University at the 11th Family Business Congress

Asst. Prof. Aslı KAYA, a faculty member of the Department of Health Management at the Faculty of Health Sciences of our University, participated in the 11th Family Business Congress.

The 11th Family Business Congress was held on April 1–2, 2026, with in-person participation at the Akıngüç Auditorium, Bakırköy Campus, hosted by the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences at Istanbul Kültür University.

Chaired by Prof. Dr. Mahmut PAKSOY, a faculty member at Istanbul Kültür University, the congress addressed critical issues related to the sustainability and intergenerational continuity of family businesses through a multidimensional perspective.

Although family businesses constitute one of the main pillars of the Turkish economy, it is well known that a significant portion of these enterprises cannot be successfully transferred to the second and third generations. This situation highlights that success in family businesses is not coincidental but is shaped by specific management approaches, organizational behavior patterns, and cultural values.

Held under the theme “Codes of Successful Family Businesses,” the congress provided a broad perspective ranging from intergenerational transition processes to leadership approaches, from the transmission of organizational culture and values to women’s leadership, and from employee experience to digitalization and artificial intelligence applications. In this context, the concept of “codes” was addressed as a multi-layered framework encompassing not only the behavioral and cultural patterns carried across generations but also algorithmic structures based on digitalization and artificial intelligence that are expected to shape the future of businesses.

The main objective of the congress was to make visible the common success codes that ensure the longevity of family businesses, to discuss how these codes are formed, maintained, and reproduced within the context of digital transformation through both academic and practice-based examples, and to transform this body of knowledge into a transferable foundation for future generations.

Bringing together academics, representatives of family businesses, professional managers, and policymakers, the congress invited participants to reconsider the processes of strengthening, intergenerational transfer, and transformation of family businesses within a holistic future perspective shaped by the interaction of human and digital codes.

Asst. Prof. Aslı KAYA, a faculty member of the Department of Health Management at the Faculty of Health Sciences of Istanbul Gelişim University, presented a paper titled “A Literature Review on National and International Studies in Family Business Research,” co-authored with independent researchers Dr. Aslı ERCAN ÖNBIÇAK and Dr. Hikmet Emir ÖNBIÇAK, as an oral presentation at the congress held on April 1–2, 2026.

The university administration congratulated Asst. Prof.  Aslı KAYA for her contributions to science and wished her continued success.
