A New Work for the Academic World: The Book “Third Age Tourism" Has Been Published

Focusing on third age tourism, which is gaining increasing importance at the intersection of tourism and health management, the book draws attention to current issues such as the changing needs of an ageing population, the participation of older adults in tourism activities, and the development of age-friendly tourism services.

The increasing proportion of older people worldwide necessitates a reassessment of accessibility, sustainability, quality of life, and the person-centred approach to service delivery in the tourism sector. In this context, “Third Age Tourism” constitutes an important academic resource that aims to address the effects of ageing on the tourism sector from an interdisciplinary perspective.

Prepared with the scientific contributions of 23 academics and researchers specialising in their respective fields, the work aims to contribute to a more comprehensive discussion of third age tourism in the academic literature, the development of tourism and healthcare services in line with the needs of older adults, and the establishment of new research areas related to the subject.

The editors of the book, Assoc. Prof. Hakkı CILGINOGLU, a faculty member in the Department of Gastronomy and Culinary Arts at the Faculty of Tourism at Kastamonu University, and Asst. Prof. Aslı KAYA, a faculty member in the Department of Health Management at the Faculty of Health Sciences at Istanbul Gelisim University, have brought together academics from different areas of expertise, contributing to the advancement of scientific knowledge on third age tourism.

An Academic Contribution to the Future of Tourism in Ageing Societies

Third age tourism is not merely an emerging area within the tourism sector; it is also a multidimensional phenomenon that should be evaluated from the perspectives of healthy ageing, active living, social participation, quality of life, and sustainable development. Accordingly, the work aims to serve as a scientific reference resource for tourism businesses, healthcare institutions, academics, researchers, students, and policymakers. It is also expected to contribute to academic discussions on the development of accessible and inclusive tourism policies that support the participation of older adults in social life.

Published in Turkish by Nobel Scientific Works in October 2026, the 262-page book, which is in its first edition, has been made available to readers as an up-to-date resource for scientific studies on third age tourism.
